Blitz Coventry Issue 01 Launch

Bring Colour were approached by the Herbert Art gallery to be the local involved with there Street Art season. We were asked to organise the launch event and we did so happily.

We got local MC's "Ricta" & "Idyllic" to come down and perform with the help of DJ "Fury", there was live illustration by 8 local artists with a bit of public participation. This was also the perfect event to launch Bring Colour's first publication: Blitz Coventry.

We did 100 ltd edition numbered copies of blitz and sold out in under 3 hrs. The night was ace, and the Herbert was buzzing!

Thank You to everyone involved and everyone who made it down. Special Thanks to (Full English) 12 Gates Photography.

Well then, Godiva festival 2010!

Bring Colour were involved in the Godiva Fest in 2007, missed out in 2008 due to lack of funds, painted the gardeners shed in 2009 and this year we worked in partnership with BBC Blast and FARGOS.

We had 4 artists doing a demo over the 2 days and also ran drop in workshops for festival goers.
It was Manic at times and we certainly learned some things!

Back when........

Writers in Coventry didnt have legal spots like the blue boards in Earlsdon. ASP, JECT, MARSA, TEK, CEPT, KRUGA, XORB, REL, ALERT, to name a few that have left there mark. Growing up in Coventry, seeing the remains of these and all of the other writers had such an influence on the whole Bring Colour camp.

The picture above is of a painting by ASP 178, a writer who clearly did his fair share and was king'in Coventry in the late 80's and is still up a fair bit now.
It seems that the younger generations of writers dont know, dont care or have been missinformed about the history of the Coventry graffiti art scene.

Knowing your History is important for numerous reasons.

  • We learn from our mistakes.
  • We share a common experience that binds the scene together.
  • We learn where the scene has come from.
  • The graffiti scene can build upon past accomplishments, and it also helps us to speculate the future.

Our passion for Graffiti/Street Art and inparticular Covenrty graffiti/street art has lead us to start to produce Blitz Coventry. Blitz is documenting the past and present bombing (graffiti writing) of Coventry. If you have any images that you would like to be included, send them to: blitz@bringcolour.com

"Know your history!!!"
